What to expect from your free consultation

Your first 30 minutes with a Stokes Law LLP lawyer is free, virtual, and confidential. We use the time to understand your situation — parenting, support, property division, agreements, divorce, or a civil dispute — and to map out the realistic options available under the applicable BC law. You'll leave the call with a clear sense of next steps, likely timelines, and an honest view of the costs involved. There is no pressure to retain us after the consultation.

Before the call, it helps to gather any court documents, contracts, correspondence, separation agreements, parenting schedules, or recent income information you already have. If you don't have anything yet, that's fine too — we'll walk through what you'll need.

Serving clients across the Okanagan

Our Kelowna office sits in the heart of downtown at 460 Doyle Ave, a short walk from the Kelowna Law Courts and the Queensway transit exchange. We meet clients in person in Kelowna and virtually anywhere in The Okanagan — including West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Vernon, Penticton, Summerland, and Salmon Arm.

We respond to all phone messages and email inquiries within one business day, Monday to Thursday. For urgent matters involving children's safety, please contact emergency services or the local police first, then reach out to us so we can take next steps once you and your family are safe.

Frequently asked questions

Are family and civil consultations free?
Yes — the first 30-minute family or civil virtual consultation is free with no obligation to retain us afterward. Mediation is a separate service with its own intake and hourly fee.
Do you take legal aid certificates?
We do not currently accept Legal Aid BC certificates. We offer flat fees for several uncontested services and predictable hourly retainers for contested matters.
Can we meet entirely virtually?
Yes. Most of our clients across the Okanagan work with us entirely by video call, phone, and email. In-person meetings in Kelowna are available when preferred.
How quickly can I get a lawyer?
For most new files we can schedule a consultation within a few business days. Urgent applications — including emergency parenting or protection matters — are triaged ahead of routine intake.
